Lecturer in Anthropology (2 posts)
Grade: Lecturer B, Pathway 1, Grade J
Salary: Starting salary £36,613- £41,212
The University of Bristol wishes to appoint two lecturers in anthropology, with a start date of 1 September 2018.
Following an internal departmental review in summer 2015, the University is implementing the final stage of its ambitious plan to refocus and expand existing activity within a 'four field' approach to anthropology. This will consolidate the unique position of the University of Bristol in the UK in offering social anthropology, biological anthropology, linguistic anthropology and archaeology together under one roof, and will provide unprecedented opportunities for interdisciplinary initiatives and collaboration. As part of this expansion, the Department seeks to appoint two lecturers in anthropology, who will contribute to undergraduate and graduate programmes, develop a strong research profile, recruit and supervise high-calibre research students, and engage with administrative duties.
Research specialism is open, however we are particularly interested in design anthropology; digital anthropology; business anthropology/anthropology of work; development anthropology; human ecology. We seek candidates with research topics of broad anthropological significance that speak to our themes of Globalisation, Adversity, and Adaptation. Candidates with active ethnographic field programmes, and/or theoretical research interests, are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidates' research interests will complement existing strengths and regional expertise of the Department, and will fit comfortably among other anthropologists and archaeologists in a multidisciplinary environment.
