Cotswold Archaeology requires a number of talented field archaeologists to join our teams based in Cirencester, Milton Keynes and Andover. With a strong ongoing portfolio of fieldwork, we are looking for hard-working and dedicated individuals to assist in the excavation of a range of rural and urban archaeological sites of many different periods. As well as assisting with local projects in the South and West you will also be required to support our field teams currently working on exciting projects in the East of England (Cambridgeshire and East Anglia) between now and the end of 2017, for which accommodation and subsistence will be provided. Those projects should also provide good opportunities for accruing lieu and overtime.

Archaeologists Ideally, candidates for the post of Archaeologist will be able to demonstrate their competence in core fieldwork skills through provision of a completed Archaeology Skills Passport (http://www.archaeologyskills.co.uk/project/core-skills/ (link is external)), or similar training log provided by another employer and completed during previous experience working for commercial British archaeological practices.
Your core skills and experience should include manual excavation and recording of archaeological features, and the recovery of artefacts or samples. You should also be able to complete stratigraphic matrices, photograph archaeological features and sites, use tapes to record measurements accurately, compose accurate measured drawings and take levels.
Experienced Archaeologists We are also looking for more experienced field archaeologists to assist our Supervisors with the training and mentoring of Trainee Archaeologists and with machine supervision. Candidates with demonstrable and considerable commercial archaeological fieldwork experience, who can provide documented evidence of their proficiency both in core fieldwork skills and machine supervision/watching brief, staff training/development and an aptitude for GPS survey will be eligible for the higher starting salary. In date training in the use of CAT and Genny equipment is also desirable.
For both posts, membership of the CIfA at PCIfA level is desirable, as is possession of a current and valid CSCS Health and Safety Card, and a full driving licence. However, CSCS training can be arranged for those who do not currently possess a valid card. Personal protective equipment will be issued for the duration of employment.
Away working will be required for certain projects, for which accommodation and subsistence will be provided. Please note all pay scales quoted are annual equivalents based on a 37.5 hour week.
