Assistant Archivist, Archives Project

The Museum has been awarded a substantial government investment of £182m, over 6 years, to create a new science and digitisation centre at the Harwell Science and Innovation Centre in south Oxfordshire. This is a once in a century opportunity to shape the future of the Museum, protect and share our unique collection and further our science.

This role will lead on audit, transfer and collections management and care of Sectional Documentation and Archives currently held within Scientific Departments moving to Harwell, including supporting the digitisation of those collections. The purpose of this project is to support Scientific Departments moving to Harwell to identify historic and archival records held, process transfer to the Museum Archives prior to their move, and enable future accessibility to those collections for both internal and external users.

The role will liaise with colleagues across the Museum both within the Harwell Programme team and Scientific Departments to audit and appraise Sectional Documentation and Archives, advocate for and facilitate transfer to the Museum Archives, and enable future access to this material through cataloguing, creation of relevant documentation and metadata to enable digitisation and digital access and undertaking necessary preventative conservation measures such as rehousing.
