With the continued expansion of fieldwork operations throughout the London and South East region, Wessex Archaeology are seeking a Project Manager to join our fieldwork team, delivering a comprehensive range of consulting and contracting services across the region. The successful candidate would ideally be based in Maidstone, Kent.

An experienced heritage professional, you will be educated to at least degree level in an appropriate subject, hold valid appropriate H&S and other training certifications, and have extensive fieldwork experience in a professional commercial archaeological environment. Whilst management level experience would be advantageous, the role may also suit an experienced Project Officer wishing to take the next step in their career.

Key purpose and responsibilities of the post include:

  • The design, preparation, management, planning, control, co-ordination, safe implementation and completion of projects.
  • To contribute to the business development aims and marketing of the company.
  • To deliver the financial objectives and reporting requirements of the company.
  • To be wholly responsible for the management of projects or equivalent tasks, including accountability for the financial elements of projects, the overall performance management of staff, all project health and safety aspects, and the quality of project outputs and deliverables.
  • Preparation and development of project designs, estimating and organising resource requirements, developing programmes and schedules.
  • Ensuring professional standards are met and that all deliverables are fit for purpose.
  • To hold personal responsibility for undertaking your work diligently, safely and to the appropriate professional standard.

A full UK Driving Licence is essential. Membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (MCIfA) and/or other appropriate professional body is desirable.
