Wessex Archaeology invites applications for the following posts:
Geoarchaeologist / Senior Geoarchaeologist / Principal Geoarchaeologist
REF: SALGEO2 11.20
Wessex Archaeology is one of the UK's largest and most comprehensive archaeological service providers, and a market leader in the provision of geoarchaeological services across terrestrial, marine and intertidal environments.
Due to the continued success of our Geoarchaeology team, we are seeking to add at least two more members on a permanent basis. Geoarchaeologists at all stages of their career are encouraged to apply, from relative newcomers through to industry-leading experts. We are confident that we can offer you a challenging and rewarding role, with access to a wide variety of interesting projects and with excellent scope for career progression.
Our current team includes geoarchaeologists at all stages of their career from Supervisor through to Senior Technical Manager, with specialists of international standing in Holocene geoarchaeology, Palaeolithic archaeology, Pleistocene geoarchaeology, Marine geoarchaeology and submerged prehistoric landscapes.
This range of in-house expertise ensures that we can provide an exciting variety of opportunities and offer on-the-job training across a wide range of specialisms, environments and project types.
As well as providing advice to our fieldwork teams on some of the most exciting archaeological sites in the UK, you can expect to be involved in a wide range of specialist-led projects including borehole surveys, geoarchaeological desk-based assessments, Pleistocene and Palaeolithic evaluation and mitigation works, submerged palaeolandscape assessments and many more.
Day-to-day activities will vary by grade and specialism - further details are provided in the Role Specification.
You should have a solid geoarchaeological skillset and knowledge base, together with good reporting and communication skills, and a familiarity with commercial practice. You will ideally have a post-graduate qualification in Geoarchaeology, Quaternary Science or a related discipline, with Palaeolithic/Pleistocene qualifications being particularly useful. A publication record would be an advantage, but there will be opportunity to further build your bibliography while in post.
Wessex Archaeology's geoarchaeology team operate nationwide from our six regional offices in Salisbury, Sheffield, Meopham, Bristol, Edinburgh and Ruthin, Wales. A location within reach of one of these bases would be an advantage. Some projects will require staff to work away from their base from time to time; in such cases, a good quality of accommodation, travel and subsistence are covered by Wessex Archaeology as a matter of course.
Applicants are invited to submit a completed application form, along with a CV and covering letter. Applications to be emailed to email@example.com. Applications must be received by close of business on Monday 14th December 2020. Receipt of all applications will be acknowledged, and we will get back to applicants by 18th December. Interview dates in January, details tbc.
Wessex Archaeology is an Equal Opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community and is committed to promoting equality of opportunity.
All applicants must have the right to work in the UK without restrictions. Proof of identity and eligibility to work in the UK will be required prior to commencement of employment.
