Job Description
GIS/Economics Analyst Chester £26K - £36K Dependant upon experience
Spending approximately 50% of time on GIS assisted economics related work and 50% on other geo-spatial based activities
Typical GIS work:
To perform various GIS data capture, translation, cleansing, loading, spatial analysis, reporting and visualisation tasks on environmental and water engineering related projects. Some tasks may include the following: Volumetric calculation derived from DTMS; Flood plain mapping; Site identification; Corridor selection; Environmental constraints mapping; habitat mapping; 3D visualizations; subsurface modeling; asset inventory surveys
Economics work:
- To perform flood damage cost assessment work on environmental based projects, for example some tasks may include the following: - Creating Property damage GIS databases to hold all the economic and physical attribute data - Process DTM and Flooding depth data to determine property flooding depths - Calculate flood damage costs using EA damage cost metric data - Running various flooding scenarios through the economic process to assess overall average damage costs versus mitigation costs - Support GIS team lead and other office managers in internal and external business development activities - Develop improved methods of working where appropriate using knowledge of business process and the GIS software packages that are available - Promote GIS best practice internal and externally via presentations and early consultation on projects
Requirements & Skills
- GIS, engineering, environmental or geography based degree - Experience of GIS working - ArcGIS (preferred) or MapInfo GIS software - Previous flood related economic modelling experience desirable - Previous work in UK environment sector or water industry desirable - Ordnance survey national datasets and their application - Ability to produce high quality mapping for internal and external clients - Relational database skills - Use of digital terrain models - Good understanding of GIS theory - GIS Macro/Script/programming experience (e.g Mapbasic, Phython) desirable
