Purpose:
To work flexibly on a long term vegetation surveys and management
contracts undertaking negotiations with landowners, undertaking tree
surveys, tree and safety risk assessments, preparation of tree work
specifications, data management and auditing of completed vegetation
management work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake delivery of contracts, working flexibly with regard to the
type of work using your skills in arboriculture, forestry and land
management.
- Carry out negotiations with landowners to agree vegetation management
programmes to manage high risk trees incorporating requirements of all
stakeholders
- Carry out tree surveys and risk assessments along overhead power
lines, railways and on public and private land using hand held data
capture and GPS
- Assess tree work requirements and prepare contractor work
specifications
- Work flexibly as required by work programme and contract requirements.
Education/Qualifications/Experience/Skills:
Essential:
- HND / Degree or equivalent in Arboriculture, Forestry or related Land
Management subject
- Knowledge and experience of tree surveying techniques and risk/hazard
assessment methodologies
- A sound knowledge of tree identification, tree physiology, pests and
diseases
- Knowledge and experience of forestry, arboricultural and land
management work practices
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of landowners and
other stakeholders to explain and obtain agreement for essential
vegetation management work
- Numerate and proficient with MS Word and MS Excel and broad
understanding of
- GIS systems and hand held data capture
- Full UK driving licence and own car available for business use
Desirable:
- NPTC Certificate of Competence in Utility Arboriculture Unit 1 Basic
Electrical Knowledge
- NPTC Certificate of Competence in Utility Arboriculture Unit 2.1 Tree
species recognition, Growth Characteristics and Associated Hazards
- Personal Trackside Safety (PTS)
- Individual Working Alone (IWA)
- Understand the principles of Visual Tree Assessment and the ability to
work methodically through the process.
- Licensed QTRA tree risk assessor and knowledge of THREATS tree risk
assessment method
- Experience and knowledge of preparing clear work specifications and
risk assessments for contractors for individual or small groups of trees
- Sound knowledge of electricity overhead line networks, railways and
vegetation management techniques in these environments
- Knowledge of protected species and ecological constraints to
vegetation management work
- Membership of a relevant professional body such as ICF, RICS,
Arboricultural Association
- Practical experience, either during an educational course or either
side of it
