The Bureau of Meteorology is Australia's national weather, climate and water agency. Through regular forecasts, warnings, monitoring and advice spanning the Australian and Antarctic region, the Bureau provides one of the most fundamental and widely used services of government.

The Bureau has multiple employment opportunities for qualified Meteorologists with operational forecasting experience to join the teams in the Regional Forecasting Centres (RFCs) of Hobart, Darwin, Sydney and the Commercial Weather Service (CWS) in Perth.

The Hobart, Darwin, Sydney, RFCs and Perth's CWS are staffed by professional teams of meteorologists providing critical services to a wide range of clients including the general public, aviation industry and marine community. To succeed in these roles you will have a strong client focus, and a good understanding of the needs of users of meteorological information. Within the RFCs, experience in aviation forecasting would be an advantage; whilst within CWS, experience in forecasting for tropical maritime environments would be beneficial. Experience in fire weather forecasting and understanding of the needs of fire agencies is required for at least one of the Sydney based positions.
