The Meteorological Institute at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, Germany, invites applications for


2 PhD Assistantships


In the focus of the joint German/Chinese funding program "Land Use and Water Resources Management under Changing Environmental Conditions" the following two projects are open:

Integrated water resources modeling and its uncertainty analysis

Characterization of climate change and extreme climate events

We expect strong interest in one of the following fields:

  • Hydrologic modeling including variably saturated flow, overland flow and land surface processes
  • Statistical analysis of extreme events including extreme value theory

Potential candidates with experience in atmospheric modeling or good knowledge of statistics in geosciences are also encouraged to apply. Experience in FORTRAN and C programming, respectively MATLAB or R, is highly desirable. We offer a competitive position (75% TV-L E13) for a 3-years period, excellent benefits, a productive, interdisciplinary working atmosphere, including comprehensive supervision.
