California Institute of TechnologyJet Propulsion LaboratoryAtmospheric Scientist, Remote Sensing RetrievalsThe Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) invites applicants for a full-time position in Atmospheric Sciences. The successful candidate will conceive and develop advanced tropospheric retrieval algorithms using multi-spectral measurements from the ultraviolet through the infrared. They will also participate in the analysis of data products generated from the Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer (TES) on NASA's Aura mission, as well as other remote sensing composition measurements. The successful candidate will develop research ideas and submit proposals for external funding of those ideas to the NASA Earth Science program as well as other funding organizations. The candidate will also develop, strengthen and sustain long-term collaborations with colleagues and external researchers. Will be a member of the Earth Atmospheric Sciences Section. Candidates must have a Ph.D. with 3+ years experience in Physics, Math, Atmospheric Chemistry, Atmospheric Science, or a related field or a Master's degree with a minimum of 6-8 years of related experience. Exceptional applicants with a recent Ph.D will also be considered. The candidate will have (1) demonstrated research experience and an established record of research with radiative transfer algorithms related to trace gases, aerosols, or clouds in the UV or near IR; (2) A record of peer-reviewed scientific publications and ability to create and sustain an externally funded research program; and (3) strong communication skills and ability to interact with members of the TES group and the external research community. We also desire candidates who can relate remotely sensed measurements of atmospheric composition to key science questions related to quantification and characterization of emissions and subsequent atmospheric processes and their impact on global air pollution and climate. Also desired is experience using optimal estimation algorithms. Enjoy a competitive salary and impressive benefits with a renowned leader in Atmospheric Sciences Research. Please apply online at: http://Careerlaunch.jpl.nasa.gov/ (Job ID #8847) Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and should include a curriculum vitae, a career statement with research objectives, and contact information for three professional references. Caltech and JPL are equal opportunity/affirmative action employees. Women, minorities, veterans, and disabled persons are encouraged to apply. |
