ECMWF is both a research institute and a 24/7 operational service, producing and disseminating numerical weather predictions to its Member States. ECMWF carries out scientific and technical research directed to the improvement of its forecasts, collects and processes large amounts of observations, and manages a long-term archive of meteorological data. Satellite and in situ observations provide the information for up-to-date global analyses and climate reanalyses of the atmosphere, ocean and land surface.

3. Summary of the role
This role sits within the Code Efficiency Team of the Integrated Forecast Systems (IFS) Section in the Research Department. The successful Senior Computational Scientist will manage a significant number of projects to support the delivery of the work of the Section. This will include improving the quality and performance of the parallel Fortran IFS code, to support operations and to assist researchers implementing new scientific developments. He or she will also be required to drive forward continuous innovation and improvement in the processes, within the team and across the Research Department. Engaging with external stakeholders will also play a large part in this function, particularly with the participation in technical meetings with Météo-France.

This position is graded A3 in line with the scales of the Co-ordinated Organisations.
For the A3 grade, the minimum annual basic salary will be £71,861.52 net of tax.
This position is assigned to the employment category STF-C as defined in the Staff Regulations.
Recruitment at the lower grade of A2 may be considered where the level of the candidate’s skills and experience do not meet the full requirements of the position.
This will be at the discretion of the organisation.
