Meteorologist - Wind Energy Forecasting - Bristol, UK



Garrad Hassan is looking to recruit into its GH Forecaster team. The group offers wind energy forecasting services to wind farm owners and developers, utilities and electrical grid operators. Our forecasts help wind energy to be effectively and efficiently integrated into electrical grids around the world, and are essential for maximising wind farm revenue through day-ahead and intra-day trading. GH is looking to expand the team to strengthen our weather modelling capabilities and meet increasing market demand.

This role will focus on working with the existing team to expand and develop the meteorological modelling aspects of Garrad Hassan's wind energy forecasting service, GH Forecaster. In addition the candidate will investigate the application of customised NWP (Numerical Weather Predictions) for the purposes of wind energy forecasting.

The individual in this post can expect to have involvement in a wide range of activities within the group including:

  • Delivering highly accurate and reliable forecasting services for energy traders, electricity grid regulators and wind farm operators
  • Producing forecast performance reports
  • Researching and developing new modelling methods
  • Interfacing with clients to ensure services meet their requirements
  • Assisting with the commercial and marketing aspects of the business

Candidates must have:

  • A degree in meteorology, physics, maths or engineering - 2:1 or above
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong analytical skills and innovative thinking
  • The ability to work under commercial pressure
  • Fluency in English
  • Additionally it would be desirable if the candidate has:
  • Experience of running NWP models - gained commercially or through academia
  • A good understanding of UK weather patterns
  • Experience of software coding - specifically Matlab, C# or SQL

This position is Bristol, UK based with occasional travel.
