Postdoctoral Scientist - Downscaling for Climate Services
The Centre for International Development and Environmental Research (ZEU) at the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen (JLU), Germany, invites applications for a part-time position to the extent of 80 % full-time equivalent for a Postdoctoral Scientist/Research Scientist
The position is funded through the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) project /Useful local climate information for Germany (NUKLEUS) - Hybrid deterministic-stochastic methods and Downscaling for Climate Services/ (uni-giessen.de/zeu/NUKLEUS) and//is available from the earliest date until March 31st , 2023. The salary of the position is determined by payment group E 13 according to the collective labor agreement of the State of Hesse (TV-H).
In collaboration with the main climate modelling and model development and climate services universities and research institutes in Germany, the successful candidate will work on deterministic bias correction of climate variables, their stochastic downscaling with the Rglimclim weather generator to 1 km resolution, will contribute evaluation tools and interfaces and will provide and integrate bias-corrected climate data in Freva (Freie Universität Berlin Evaluation System) and provide information on climate services for different sectors in Germany. Presentation of the results in conferences and peer-reviewed publications together with participation in the project management, and coordination with the NUKLEUS partners and project reporting belong to the work tasks.
The successful candidate will join a small international and interdisciplinary team working on various aspects of past, present and future climate change and impacts across the Europe and the Mediterranean. The group is attached to the applied development and environmental research oriented interdisciplinary Center for International Development and Environmental Research (ZEU) at the Justus Liebig University Giessen (https://www.uni-giessen.de/zeu).
