The Cluster of Excellence „Integrated Climate System Analysis and Prediction“ (CliSAP) is responding to this challenge in an integrated way. Our unique feature: a close cooperation of earth system scientists with experts from social sciences, economics, media sciences or peace and conflict research. Jointly, these experts analyse natural and anthropogenic causes for climate change and develop scenarios for the future. CliSAP has initiated the “KlimaCampus Hamburg”, an alliance of research institutions covering a wide range of expertise on integrated climate system science in Hamburg. The KlimaCampus offers excellent conditions for research and education. The School of Integrated Climate System Sciences SICSS at the University of Hamburg presently offers 3 PhD positionsfor highly qualified and motivated applicants from all countries. The focus has to be on basic research in earth or climate system science, on regional climate impacts or on interactions between climate and humans. Selected applicants will be invited for an interview with faculty members, presumably in late August / early September. The working and teaching language at SICSS is English; sufficient command of the language is required and will be evaluated during the interview. General information Payment will be according to salary group E 13 TV-L (65%). The position is offered for 3 years (see also § 2 of the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Law (Wissenschaftszeitvertrags-gesetz)) and calls for 26 hours per week.
