Associate to Full Professor Position in Atmospheric Sciences



The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Houston invites applicants for a tenure-track position in atmospheric science at the associate to full professor level.

Candidates are sought who have the ability to conduct research in atmospheric sciences and who have a demonstrated record of leadership, exceptional research productivity and peer-reviewed publication, a strong record for external research fuhding, a strong national or international reputation in their field, and outstanding teaching and mentoring skills. Successful candidates will be expected to teach atmospheric science courses at both the under-graduate and graduate levels and to supervise undergraduate and graduate student research projects. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and to provide dynamic leadership in formulating and implementing a vision to further advance atmospheric research and academic programs within the University.

The Atmospheric Science Research Group at the University of Houston is composed of interdisciplinary researchers committed to perform measurement and modeling studies involving complex issues in meteorology, air chemistry, and climate change. Modeling efforts address many critical components such as meteorology, emissions, air pollution forecasting, and atmospheric chemistry. Measurement programs emphasize dynamical, physical, and chemical characterization of various environments and encompass local, regional, global-scale studies.

The Department maintains significant high-performance computing facilities and modeling software dedicated to atmospheric sciences. The Department also maintains extensive analytical equipment related to air chemistry and radiation measurements, comprehensive meteorological instrumentation, several local field monitoring towers and stations in the Houston region, a remote sensing lab, several aircraft used in atmospheric research, an intensive coastal field research station, and a mountain field camp near Red Lodge, Montana. In addition, the Civil Engineering Department manages a related facility, the National Center for Airborne Laser Mapping. The Department currently has 45 faculty appointments and offers a comprehensive set of Geosciences undergraduate and graduate degree programs in geology, geophysics and atmospheric science.
