Post-Doctoral Researcher
Development of dynamic scenarios of catastrophic coastal
hazards at European and global scale
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission's in-house science service. The Climate Risk Management Unit of the JRC, located in Ispra (Italy), provides information and decision making tools to support EC policy makers in the efficient and effective management of risks due to extreme weather driven hazards under today's and future climates. We are looking for a researcher to contribute to the development of a harmonized coastal risk assessment and management tool scheme at pan-European and global scale. The primary duties involve the development of dynamic scenarios of catastrophic coastal hazards (e.g., storm surges, sea level rise) in view of climate change through an inventory of existing assessments and information, and by developing and applying - where necessary - new numerical methods to produce scenarios of storm surge, wave and coastal flooding at regional to global scales.
The ideal candidate has a PhD, or university degree and 5 years relevant experience, in a field related to Earth, Ocean or Atmospheric Sciences. Experience with numerical modelling, and handling large geo-science datasets, as well as strong analytical and programming skills, are required.
The successful applicant is expected to be creative, be able to work independently, to have good oral and written communication skills in English, and to have a record of research activities including publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
The Joint Research Centre is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the diversity of its staff. It welcomes nominations of and applications from women and minority groups.
Candidates interested in the published position must introduce an application form through the JRC recruitment web site http://recruitment.jrc.ec.europa.eu/?type=GH (Code: 2013-IPR-H-30-000-1604 - CAT 30 - ISPRA). Only applications received through ESRA will be considered as valid.
Registration closes on 13 May 2013.
