Centre for Environmental and Climate Research
Postdoctoral position in climate modelling research (NPA 2011/428)
Job assignments
The position is in climate modellering research: Regional and global climate modelling of
terrestrial ecosystems, vegetation dynamics, biogeochemistry as part of the climate system and
as climate feedback mechanisms.
The employee will conduct research within the Strategic Research Area at Lund University in
Modelling the Regional and Global Earth System (MERGE). MERGE involves also several
other Swedish universities as well as SMHI, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological
Institute. MERGE focuses on the development of a new generation of climate models and
their application to a range of problems and questions related to regional and global climate
change and its impacts.
The researcher will develop and perform simulations with a regional climate model and a global
Earth system model, with efforts in particular on a model component that simulates vegetation
dynamics and terrestrial biogeochemistry and the associated interactions with the atmosphere.
The compilation of data and the development of tools for the calibration and evaluation of the
models will form part of the work.
Qualifications required
Eligible candidates
- will hold a PhD in Geobiosphere Science or a related field
- have previous experience of the development and application of climate- or earth system models
- have sufficient programming and computing skills to undertake the required work with such models
- have adequate skills in written and spoken English.
This is a position intended as an initial step in a career.
