Decision-making using weather forecasts mean risk management in the face of uncertainty. Ensemble forecasting allows us to estimate the uncertainty in each forecast we issue. We are seeking a specialist to help customers exploit probabilistic forecasts to make better decisions in managing their weather-related risks.
The Ensemble Forecasting Group provides a complete service from research on ensemble methods, through development of products, to a consultancy service to help customers exploit the forecasts.
You'll combine research on communication of uncertainty with consultancy on decision-making and product design to meet the needs of individual customers. You will combine a strong mathematical background with proven research experience in science or business decision-making. Able to communicate science effectively to non-specialists, you'll also have a strong interest in the application of weather forecasts. Experience of applied statistics, ideally in the context of weather forecasts, would be highly advantageous.
