Make our weather and climate models better by the use of cutting edge numerical techniques

The foundation of the Met Office's success in operational numerical weather and climate prediction is its Unified Model (UM). The UM is built around its dynamical core, which encompasses the numerical solution of the non-hydrostatic set of equations governing atmospheric flow. The Dynamics Research group is responsible for all aspects of that dynamical core. We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist to join our small group as we develop, validate and implement the next dynamical core in order to improve the accuracy, robustness and efficiency of the UM.

If you have at least a good degree in mathematics or a closely related subject, a proven ability to conduct and publish your own research, together with excellent analytical and problem solving skills then we would like to hear from you. You will have strong computing skills, enjoy working in a team environment and have a good understanding of meteorology. Ideally, you will also have some experience of numerical analysis and be able to apply it to practical problems.
