Be part of a ground breaking team.

The Met Office and the Environment Agency are setting up a Flood Forecasting Centre (FFC), based at the London offices of the Met Office. This exciting partnership will improve the UK's ability to respond to flooding events by providing a national forecasting and alert service to central and local government departments and agencies.

As a Forecaster at the FFC you will work alongside Environment Agency Hydrologists as part of a 24 hour shift working operation identifying severe weather and high risk flood events.

You will need to be a qualified weather forecaster with the drive and enthusiasm required to make a positive impact in an operational environment. Your ability to work independently and take critical decisions is essential, as are your skills at communicating the impact of weather events in a meaningful way to a range of customers who may or may not understand meteorological terms.

Initially the appointment is for 1 year, starting in late March 2009, with the possibility of it becoming permanent.
