Postdoc position on Southern Ocean clouds

This research calls for employing recent satellite observations to develop a climatology of the cloud systems over the Southern Ocean (SO) that will be evaluated against the observations of the SOCRATES, CAPRICORN, MARCUS and ACRE/MICRE field campaigns. Marine atmospheric boundary layer clouds are of particular interest given their common presence across the SO and their poor representation in climate models. From this climatology and the field observations, case studies will be developed and simulated to gain new insights into the microphysics and dynamics of these clouds.

A two-year (with potential extension) postdoctoral research assistant position is sought to join a diverse team of researchers from Monash University, the University of Melbourne the Bureau of Meteorology and the UK Meteorological Office.

This research is funded by Australian Research Council Discovery Grant DP190101362.
