Bergen Air Quality under Present Climate and Future Climate Scenarios
A three year Ph. D. fellowship position (2012 - 2015) is open at the G.C. Rieber Climate Institute with focus on understanding, simulation and projection of urban air quality and climate in Bergen. The work is aimed to set-up, to calibrate and to run the turbulence-resolving model PALM. It necessarily includes intensive communications with data providers (Bergen municipality, Road authorities, Meteorological Institute, Health authorities and Geophysical Institute) and essential contribution to the PALM development and data processing. The study should result in a novel, model-based approach to the urban air quality assessment, warning of air quality hazards and scenarios of future air quality in Bergen.
The qualified candidate should demonstrate:
- Familiarity with numerical modelling in geo-sciences and/or fluid dynamics
- High level of computer programming skills for parallel computations
- Experience with statistical analysis
- Good skills in public relations and written communication
