NIWA's climate science research is fundamental to the economic, environmental and social well-being of New Zealand and the South Pacific. This new position is a senior role in the organisation and combines both leadership and management responsibilities with outreach, consultancy and research.

The successful candidate will be expected to work across a range of climate science activities in New Zealand and the Pacific Rim. Major emphasis will be on meeting end-user requirements for high quality information and advice on understanding and managing climate variability and change. This position includes the communication of research results, and the development of new services to enhance NIWA's long term growth strategy in the field of climate and hazards research and services.

Candidates will have a postgraduate degree in a relevant aspect of atmospheric, engineering or environmental science, and extensive experience in climate science.
