NUFFIELD COLLEGE - Climate Econometrics Project

Nuffield College seeks to appoint several postdoctoral researchers from different disciplines to contribute to the 'Climate Econometrics (CE)' project ( which aims to improve the understanding of the impact of humanity on climate and vice versa.

For the post of Postdoctoral Researcher in Climate Policy, we seek a candidate with a background in law, economics, public policy, or climate science. The post-holder will contribute to CE research objectives through the review and analysis of environmental policies. They will conduct independent research on climate and environmental policy, develop policy proposals, and work with the wider CE network in climate policy to conduct advocacy and communicate results to a wide audience. They will contribute to knowledge exchange between climatology, econometrics, and economics, collaborate in preparing research publications, and will communicate policy implications of research findings to policy makers and the public. They will present research at conferences and at public and policy meetings, and will represent the CE research network at external meetings and seminars. They may also undertake ad hoc paid teaching or supervision within the collegiate University, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.

Applicants should hold or be close to completing a doctorate in Law, Economics, Politics, Public Policy, Climate Science, or a related relevant discipline. The successful candidate should have submitted their doctoral dissertation by the time they take up the post. Applicants should have proven research ability commensurate with their career stage, evidenced through scholarly publications and presentations at international conferences, and should demonstrate an interest in climate change impacts and public policy in their research and professional activities. They should have experience of statistical or econometric analyses, and excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to connect with a range of audiences through different media pathways accessible by policy makers. They will be motivated to inform and effect positive change in different areas of climate policy, and able to network effectively in the policy domain and to extend existing CE policy contacts. They will be capable of translating technical concepts from economics, statistics, and climate science into accessible formats for a policy audience and/or the public. They will be able to manage their own academic research, and to collaborate with researchers spanning fields from economics to climate science.

A background knowledge of climate science, econometrics, or economics is desirable, as is experience in working with statistical software environments (e.g. R, Ox, Matlab, or Python). A commitment to issues surrounding environmental and social justice is also desirable.

The post is based at Nuffield College in the University of Oxford. The salary will be in the range 31,604 to 42,418 per annum (Grade 7). The post is full-time and fixed-term for 3 years, with an initial probationary period of six months, and is available from October 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.
