Postdoctoral research fellow in industrial emissions monitoring
and ambient trace gas measurements

A 4-year postdoctoral research fellowship is available at the Department of Chemistry, University of Oslo, Norway.

We have an immediate opening for a 4-year postdoctoral research fellow within the Amine Research and Monitoring Project (ARM) with focus on atmospheric chemistry processes relevant for Technology Center Mongstad (TCM) and the Mongstad area on the West coast of Norway. The objective of the project is to provide adequate emissions and ambient impact data from and near the industrial facility in Mongstad over several years. Work entails regular instrument maintenance and travel to the field site, data acquisition, and analysis. In cooperation with TCM, monitoring data shall provide information on the effectiveness of different CO2 removal technologies from stack gas, and their short-term environmental impacts. In addition, the successful applicant will work with researchers in the Department on exploratory data acquisition and interpretation using modern time-of-flight mass spectrometry (ToF-MS), gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). 75% of time devoted to the project, 25% of time allocated to own research and further qualification.

Qualifications

We seek a dynamic PhD, preferably with experience in Proton-Transfer-Reaction Mass Spectrometry. Applicants should have a doctoral degree in Physics, Chemistry, Atmospheric Sciences, or similar, with experience in instrumental analytical chemistry and a general knowledge of atmospheric chemistry or air quality. The successful applicant will be creative and innovative with good collaborative skills, have strong analytical and quantitative skills, experience in working with large data sets and own programming codes, and interest in combining data and observations with modeling tools (statistical or physically based). Applicants must have a regular driver's license; excellent English writing and communication skills are required.
