Your new position as a Qantas Meteorologist will see you performing tasks that will allow you to provide specialist meteorological technical, operational and tactical analysis and advice to the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC), Flight Crew and Flight Operations management. Located within Flight Operations, this role will actively enhance the network operations of QANTAS Airways Ltd through the provision of real-time monitoring of meteorological observations, forecasts and warnings associated with relevant domestic and international aerodromes and of en-route conditions.

You will be responsible for:

  • The provision of briefing products and advice associated with the real-time monitoring of meteorological observations, forecasts and warnings associated with relevant domestic and international aerodromes and of en-route conditions
  • Provision of a specific weather watch services for individual flights
  • Providing briefings to stakeholders, including face-to-face briefing of pilots and airline staff and management. In particular to thunderstorms and severe weather events and any other weather/environment phenomena, which may have a significant impact on flight operations
  • Participating in the tactical and strategic approach to flight planning and event risk modelling and focus on outcomes through activities such as the routine review of the previous day's operations with recommendations to enhance or improve operations in the future
  • Participating in administration activities and projects aimed at improving procedures, products and services to achieve more efficient and effective airline weather related operations as directed by Flight Operations management
  • Providing a variety of written and verbal reports, including meteorological information for inclusion in Airline and aviation industry publications and documents

To be successful in this role you will display:

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent in Meteorology Science essential
  • Experience in aviation meteorology with appropriate levels of knowledge and/or experience in a meteorology forecasting office or equivalent aviation briefing office
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of Aeronautical Information & Air Traffic Management principles
  • Intermediate level of skills in Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to adhere to very strict deadlines
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication & presentation skills
  • Demonstrated analytical skills
  • To be a highly motivated self starter with the ability to work in a specialised team environment
  • Ability to effectively collate and present data to all levels of the company
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of Airline Operations environment
  • Ability to meet Corporate and Divisional/Departmental Service Standards
  • Ability to comply with Corporate Occupational Health and Safety Responsibilities Standard
