The Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung (SGN) is a member institution of the Leibniz Association. With almost 800 employees and its headquarters in Frankfurt am Main, Senckenberg conducts natural history research with research institutions in six federal states of Germany. As an interdisciplinary institute, the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (BiK-F) focuses on the interactions between biodiversity and climate.

We invite applications for a fixed-term position (36 months) available on 1st January 2021 or soon thereafter - for a

PhD position in Paleoclimate (m/f/d)

The successful applicant is expected to be closely involved in collaborative research efforts in the broad field of stratigraphy, organic geochemistry and isotope geochemistry. The research project is funded by DFG and called 'Intomess Quantification of salinity and temperature changes accompanying the way into the Mediterranean Messinian Salinity Crisis'.

Applicants should hold a M.Sc. in Earth sciences, or a related field and have a background in stratigraphy (e.g. micropaleontology, magnetostratigraphy, event geochemistry, astronomical tuning) and desire to work in organic and isotope geochemistry laboratories. Background in geology and paleoclimatology is a plus. The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated excellence in scholarship. Willingness to closely interact with other research groups within Senckenberg BiK-F and very good written and oral communication skills in English are required.

Salary and benefits are according to a public service position in Germany (TV-H E 13, 66% part time positions). The contracts should start on January 1st 2021 and will be restricted to 36 months.
