Salary: Band E, £25,963.00 to £29,934.00, starting salary will be on the base of the salary scale, £25,963.00

Working on a range of Air Quality issues around Scotland, you will provide scientific information and advice, specifically on the modelling and monitoring of atmospheric processes. The majority of this will concern physical processes but may include related aspects of chemistry, statistics and risk assessment. A key task of the post will be to provide assessments of modelling and monitoring reports submitted to SEPA in support of applications to discharge waste to Air. You will also contribute to the integrated development of the Oceanography/Meteorology & Modelling Unit and undertake modelling and data analysis of atmospheric processes in support of investigative or project work. As the post requires participation in key meetings, and the presentation of scientific information to non-scientists, you will have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Detailed knowledge of physical atmospheric processes, and key concepts in atmospheric chemistry, is essential. You will have advanced skills in computer operating systems and their communication, standard office and scientific packages (or their equivalent) including MS Office, ArcGIS, MATLAB, IDL and Surfer as well as experience in the practical application of Air Modelling Software: e.g., ADMS, AERMOD, NAME, CALPUFF. Experience in the use of CFD models such as PHOENICS, FLUENT etc. would be an advantage. Good data processing, numerical and computational skills are pre-requisite as is experience of programming, or scripting, for the automation of data processing of instrumentation and model output.
