Texas Tech UniversityDepartment of GeosciencesTwo Tenure-Track Positions in Atmospheric ScienceThe Department of Geosciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for two tenure-track positions in the Atmospheric Science Group of the Department of Geosciences. The Department intends to fill these positions at the Assistant Professor level by fall 2010. One position (Position #2011-TLF-013) is in the areas of cloud and precipitation microphysics and the other (Position #2011-TLF-014) is in boundary layer meteorology and its applications in wind power. Each position requires (1) an earned doctorate with a major in atmospheric science (meteorology) or a closely related discipline; (2) a commitment to excellence in teaching, research and professional service; and (3) evidence of scholarly achievements. In order to advance in rank, the successful candidate is expected to obtain extramural funding and publish research results. The successful candidates will (1) teach undergraduate and graduate atmospheric science courses; (2) develop and sustain sponsored research programs; (3) supervise student research work; and (4) engage in service activities. The Atmospheric Science Group web site (www.atmo.ttu.edu) describes the laboratories, facilities and current research programs in the Department. TTU has assembled a unique array of observational capabilities (e.g., two mobile high-frequency Doppler radars, 24 StickNet in situ observation stations, the 58-station West Texas Mesonet, and surface and tower-based instrument suites based at Reese Technology Center). Applicants must first visit the TTU employment website at http://jobs.texastech.edu. Once there, go to "Search Postings", search for appropriate requisition number (2011-TLF-013 or 2011-TLF-014), and provide the required information. Afterwards, applicants must submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching and research interests, names and contact information (including e-mail address) of at least three professional references. These documents can either be uploaded to the employment website or be mailed to the appropriate search committee chairperson. For the cloud and precipitation microphysics position (2011-TLF-013) the committee chairman is Dr. Christopher Weiss, Microphysics Search Committee, Atmospheric Science Group, Texas Tech University, Box 42101, Lubbock, TX, 79409-2101. E-mail questions regarding the position are received at Chris.Weiss@ttu.edu. For the boundary layer meteorology position (2011-TLF-014), the committee chairperson is Dr. John L. Schroeder, Boundary Layer Search Committee Chairperson, Atmospheric Science Group, Texas Tech University, Box 42101, Lubbock, Texas 79409-2101. Fax to 806-742-1738, or e-mail to john.schroeder@ttu.edu. Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
