Postdoctoral Atmospheric Scientist #4685



The Department of Atmospheric Science at the University of Wyoming has a postdoctoral opportunity for research involving aerosol physics, aerosol measurement, and analysis of the impact of stratospheric aerosol on atmospheric radiation or chemistry. The successful candidate will have an earned Ph.D. in atmospheric science or a closely related field, and will have the potential to contribute to current stratospheric balloon-borne measurement programs at the University, through the collection of in situ measurements and their scientific analysis. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to build upon the existing measurement capabilities to both extend the University's long term measurement program, and to push it in new directions. The ideal candidate will have experience with in situ aerosol measurements and with analysis of the impact of aerosol on atmospheric composition and on climate change. Additional experience with autonomous in situ instruments will be an advantage. Opportunities may also exist to contribute to aircraft-borne in situ aerosol measurements and to work in the Keck aerosol laboratory. This research position is funded for two years with the potential for extension, contingent on department needs and resources, on accomplishments, and on success with external funding.

The Department of Atmospheric Science is one of six in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, concentrating on research and graduate education, with strengths in the study of precipitation, cloud and aerosol physics, stratospheric aerosols and gases, boundary layer processes, and regional and global climate modeling. Our core facilities include the Stratospheric Balloon Facility, the NSF-supported King Air Research Aircraft, the Keck Aerosol Laboratory, and the Mobile Air Quality Laboratory.
