The Christian-Albrechts-Universität (CAU) Kiel is about to fund the "Centre of Excellence in Geo-Energy". The aim of the centre is the use of small and large scale geological subsurface as a resource to provide and support the use of new technologies for the extraction, transport and storage of geo-energies. The centre of excellence in Geo-Energy is offering a
Research Assistant Position in Informatics / Geoinformatics / Software Engineering
The position is limited to three years with the possibility of extension in the case of a positive evaluation of the centre of excellence. This is a full-time position (38.7 h/week). Partial employment and flexible working time models are basically possible. The salary will be paid in accordance with the German tariff for public employees (TV-L E13).
In the frame of the energy transition, the transformation of the energy systems requires spatial and temporal resolved mapping of the energy system. To do this, spatial information has to be visualised as well as analysed and a link to the behaviour of individual components of the energy systems and geo-energy technologies has to be set.
The content issues of the job offer contains the independent and continuous conception, development and implementation of software architectures to integrate the presentation and use of temporally and spatially resolved data from a variety of resources of variable spatial scales, as well as the analysis through artificial intelligence. In particular, results of deterministic models for geo-processes and geo-technologies should integrate and combine the data of the energy system. Further duties are the creation of evaluation algorithms and the use of artificial intelligence methods for integrative data analysis in order to understand and to consider the complexity and the parameter range of geological data and the data of the energy system. These tasks are carried out in close cooperation with other members of the "Centre of Excellence in Geo-Energy" and the associated working groups and therefore contributes to the development and implementation of overaching software and model platforms.
The technical issues contain the development and implementation of suitable spatial data structures, methods of artificial intelligence, and software solutions into the existing software environments as well as into a software platform that has to be developed. Further duties include the automation of functional processes and the translation of content and technical issues in future software solutions. It is expected that the candidate cooperates in cross-functional project tasks and participates in training events and in general tasks of the "Centre of Excellence in Geo-Energy".
Requirements for the position include a master degree in informatics, geoinformatics or equivalent degree as well as experience in designing and implementing software architectures and the automation of functional processes. Knowledge and experience in the programming with higher languages, the application of GIS and spatial-related databases and the knowledge with artificial intelligence methods are an advantage. It is also expected to work in a large interdisciplinary research team, independently and solution-oriented and with a high motivation and sense of responsibility. Further, the candidate should be resilient, independent, and flexible with regard to new tasks. We expect very well developed oral and written language skills in English.
The Christian-Albrechts-Universität (CAU) Kiel aims at increasing the number of women in scientific research and lecture and therefore encourages women to apply. Women with equivalent suitability, qualification and professional performance will be given priority. The CAU aims at increasing the number of disabled applicants and encourages scientists with disabilities to apply. Qualified disabled applicants will receive preference in the application process. Further, we expressly welcome applications from people with a migration background.
