Are you a Python developer who likes to solve complex problems using inventive solutions? Would you enjoy working on a variety of software projects and challenges?

JBA Risk Management are the global leaders in flood risk science and we're looking for a talented Python developer to join our expert team.

About JBA

We're better known amongst our clients as The Flood People. We help the insurance, reinsurance and property industries understand flood risk. Our flood maps, catastrophe models and data are used by some of the world's leading organisations. We're experts in translating complex, scientific data into useful information, using sophisticated hydraulic approaches and models to provide cutting-edge flood risk intelligence.

The role

As a numerically and scientifically literate Python developer you'll work on extending and maintaining our existing code base used for the creation of leading flood risk data. You'll play a vital role in enabling us to deliver the highest possible quality data and models to our clients. We have an ambitious multi-year plan to revolutionise the technologies we use and the role has a focus on software development for the production of our hazard maps.

About you

You need to be capable of understanding user requirements and delivering high quality and innovative software tools and workflows.

You will be bright, inquisitive, quick to learn and interested in what we do!

Some Python programming experience is a must, although not necessarily in a commercial setting, and you'll need to appreciate the value of good software design.

You will be able to demonstrate the following essential attributes:

  • You enjoy collaborating and being part of a team
  • You are flexible and happy to be involved in a wide range of software development activities, including speaking to users, designing / writing / testing code and writing documentation
  • You take pride in the quality of your work
  • You don't shy away from challenges and are driven to create high quality, production-ready software

If you have experience in applying Python to scientific, computationally intensive problems involving large spatial datasets or Machine Learning, even better.
