GIS Architect - contract



Location: Aberdeen,UK
Legal eligibility: The applicant must be legally qualified to work in EC or be eligible for a working visa


Requirement Summary

An experienced GIS architect is required immediately for a high profile project for one of our long-standing clients. The role is as a technical lead in the review of current systems and the design and implementation of the next system. The technical design will fit with business needs and will be complimented with clear processes for maintenance and policies for use. The GIS Architect will be part of a small team and while a knowledge of the E&P business and data types is an advantage the individual will be supported by very experienced E&P practitioners.

NDB is an independent, software neutral consulting company engaged in a wide range of technical areas with a common objective of helping our clients get more out of technical software and data.

  • To ensure the design and structure of the ArcSDE Geodatabase is optimal for the type and range of geospatial data.
  • To define a robust set of processes and procedures for managing the flow of geospatial data. To design and implement appropriate controls to ensure the absolute integrity of all geospatial data.
  • To re-evaluate current roles and responsibilities regarding the management and administration of the Geodatabase.
  • To fully document all aspects of the ArcSDE software installation, geodatabase design and management and administration tasks.
  • To evaluate and make recommendations where necessary to improve and optimise Geodatabase security, including a strategy for efficiently and accurately managing Oracle user accounts and maintaining user permissions on geospatial datasets.

Ideal experience and personal characteristics

  • Experience of delivery of successful, end-to-end GIS implementation projects
  • GIS ArcSDE systems design architecture skills
  • Experience of defining required business processes and policies to ensure full utilization of the system
  • It would be helpful to have experience of working within a technical data management support function in an Exploration and Production company (Wells Data, Seismic Data)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to learn, insatiable curiosity and good listening skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work individually or as part of a team

Educational background

Degree level IT, Geoscience or Spatial/Geoinfomatics

A higher education level is an advantage when backed-up by relevant experience, continued enthusiasm, a positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent day rate
