Our client is looking for an applied research entomologist
who is interested in working within the arable crop and horticultural
industries specialising in invertebrate pest management. The areas of work
will include strategic consultancy and research for their clients who include
Defra and its agencies, Welsh Assembly Government, EC, the agricultural supply
industry and levy boards. Typical subjects include pests of UK arable
combinable and root crops and the understanding of their chemical and cultural
control methods. This will include their impact on new crops - perhaps
including GMs, industry intelligence reporting, and planning and liaison with
specialists within ADAS and outside.
This rewarding role will be to work alongside senior staff
and team members on existing projects, to publish and promote the findings,
and also to assist in the development of new projects.
As a Research Scientist you will be working within the
Sustainable Crop Management unit. The business unit has a large number of
Research Scientists and Consultants with complementary skills, and scientific
support staff who are responsible for the day-to-day conduct of
experimentation.
Candidates should have a degree or higher in entomology,
integrated pest management or a related discipline, and appropriate scientific
publications would be advantageous. Candidates must have good data
interpretation and communication skills. You will need to have an incisive
mind and be able to distil information into reports relevant to clients needs.
You should demonstrate ability to promote and market innovative R&D and
consultancy proposals and be particularly attracted to working under the
constraints of a commercial research operation. Experience of working within a
relevant industry is desirable. Knowledge of practical issues facing UK food
and farming industries is essential. Due to the location a driving Licence,
valid in UK, is essential.
