Power Systems Engineer - Renewable Energy - Wellington, New Zealand

The Role

The jobholder will be involved in the key aspects of the power systems analysis effort for the grid integration of renewable energy projects particularly wind farms up to 1GW and connected at voltage levels up to 500kV. Specific elements of the role include:
*Negotiating strategies and methods of connection with Network Service Providers (NSPs) and primary generation plant manufacturers to gain the best value solutions for our clients.
*Producing technical reports for power system analysis studies.
*Developing and maintaining a good understanding and relevant working knowledge of the National Electricity Rules, National Electricity Market, State Distribution and Transmission Codes, State and Federal Regulators, State planning bodies, relevant Australian technical standards and legal and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:
*To undertake and deliver feasibility studies on existing and new installations, and negotiations with Network Service Providers (NSPs).
*To undertake power systems and network studies and analysis, evaluation of compliance with technical standards and grid code compliance.
*To design cost effective generation systems that achieve minimum cost and reliable operation.
*To deliver projects on time and within budget, delivering cost saving options wherever possible.
*To ensure project plans and documentation are up to date and effective.
*To liaise with clients to interpret and define scope, requirements and deliverables, prepare quotations, estimates and schedules, and to deliver outcomes within agreed timescales.
*To perform all tasks, duties and work in accordance with quality systems, standards and procedures.
*To actively contribute to the successful operation and continuous improvement of the clients business.

Qualifications and Experience
*Engineering Degree with specialisation in Electrical Engineering.
*Experience working in power systems analysis on generation systems using relevant power system analysis software such as PSS/E or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
*Fully conversant with distribution and transmission networks, generation systems and steady state, dynamic and transient analysis.
*Knowledge of grid codes and compliance would be advantageous.
*A commitment to renewable energy and wind energy in particular.
*Well developed inter-personal, organisational and communication skills.
*Good negotiation skills.
*Be well organised and able to work on own initiative.
*Ability to prioritise demanding workloads and pay attention to detail.
*Be self motivated, enthusiastic and a team player.
*Be numerate and have excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.

It is expected that to succeed in this role the successful candidate will have experience in the wind industry and the renewable sector.
