Chair (W3) of Computational Landscape Ecology


at the earliest possible date.

The post holder will be responsible for integrative research and teaching duties in the field of Computational Landscape Ecology at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences. The position is focused on analyses, diagnosis, model building, and assessment of functions and services at the landscape scale, and their up-scaling to the supra-regional scale. With respect to teaching responsibilities, the Chair covers landscape ecology in the geography study programme, as well as those of the Departments of Hydrosciences and Forest Sciences. The post holder will also contribute to other Masters programmes taught partially in English, such as Spatial Planning and Natural Resources Management. Furthermore, the post holder is expected to take an active part in the curriculum of the Centre for International Postgraduate Studies of Environmental Management (CIPSEM) of TU Dresden, and in the activities of the academic self-administration. The integrative orientation of the post requires network-building cooperation within TU Dresden and other institutions of the Dresden science region (i.e. Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development, Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research, Helmholtz Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, the Senckenberg Institutes in Dresden und Görlitz and the Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (UNU-FLORES) of the United Nations University).

In addition to relevant professional experience, the successful candidate is expected to pursue innovative and integrative modelling approaches, designed to simulate and assess landscape potentials and their dynamics, while taking into account their socio-economical context. Applicants should be internationally renowned in regard to their publication and research activities. International and interdisciplinary networking as well as successful external funding is required. In addition to outstanding scientific qualifications, the position will require above-average educational-didactic competence. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act Governing Academic Freedom in Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (Saxon Academic Freedom in Higher Education Act - SächsHSFG).
