The Faculty of Geosciences and Geography of the Georg-August-University Göttingen (Germany) invites applications for the position of a
The position is open to outstanding early-career scientists with future potential. The initial appointment will be made for a period of three years with an extension for further three years after positive assessment. The transition to a permanent position of Associate Professor (W2) takes effect following a successful second evaluation.
The focus of the professorship will be on interactions between fluids and minerals/rocks in the low-temperature field between the surface of the Earth (weathering, early diagenesis) and deep burial in sedimentary basins. Research interest in detailed process understanding is essential, with the aim of bridging scales from nano/micrometers to large volumes of sediment, soil and/or rock. We therefore encourage applications of candidates with a strong backgound in field studies as well as experimental and/or analytical approaches that take into account fundamental physico-chemical processes as well as biotic aspects, and/or numerical modelling to verify and predict qualitative and quantitative observations in space and time.
We seek a creative and integrative person with innovative approaches to the respective re-search themes, who strengthens the collaboration within the Faculty and with other institutions. We expect international visibility in publications and the ability to contribute to our high standard, research-oriented teaching. We offer an outstanding staff and analytical infrastructure at one of the leading geoscience institutions in Germany.
The professorship is integrated in several degree programs of the faculty, including BSc and MSc Geosciences, BSc Ecosystem management, and PhD courses.
Criteria for appointment are established by § 30 of the Higher Education Law of Lower Saxony. For a tenure track option, only those candidates can be considered who have been working in academic positions outside the University of Göttingen for at least two years after finalizing their PhD at the University of Göttingen. As a Public Law Foundation the University of Göttingen has the right to appoint professors. Further details will be given on request.
We explicitly welcome applications from abroad. The University strives to increase its proportion of female staff and specifically encourages qualified women to apply. The University de-fines itself as a family-friendly institution and promotes a work-life balance. If equally qualified, handicapped persons are given preference. Part-time work can be agreed if necessary.
Applications with CV, certificates, publication list, information on completed and planned teaching activity, future research plan, and an overview of successful grant applications are requested by September 15th, 2018 in electronic form as a single pdf-file should be send to
