Research Associate position in the field of Integrated Ecological-Economic Modelling

Universität Hamburg invites applications for a Research Associate position in the field of Integrated Ecological-Economic Modelling for the project SeaUseTip (Spatial and temporal analysis of tipping points of the socio-ecological system of the German North Sea under different management scenarios) within the theme BioTip in the framework program FONA by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The position commences on March 1st, 2019, in accordance with Section 28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG).
SeaUseTip is an ambitious inter- and transdisciplinary research project jointly pursued by the Universität Hamburg, the Johann Heinrich von Thünen-Institut, and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht. It aims at analyzing the sensitivity of the coupled socio-ecological system of the North Sea to tipping effects, in view of transient natural and anthropogenic pressures, and the development of sustainable management strategies. It focusses on the southern part of the North Sea.
It is remunerated at the salary level 65% TV-L 13 and calls for 25.35 hours per week.
The fixed-term nature of this contract is based upon Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed for a period of 36 months.

Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates can also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
The person holding the post will analyze an existing coupled ecological-economic model suitable for a stylized description of the German Bight for coupled tipping effects. They will furthermore investigate tipping risks based on real world data as well as hypothetical forcings. Management scenarios in view of tipping points of the coupled ecological-economic system should be derived under system parameter uncertainty.
A university degree in economics, engineering, mathematics, or the natural sciences; good knowledge of the R programming language or other programming languages. Severely disabled applicants will receive preference over equally qualified non-disabled applicants.
