Position Description:

The Natural Resources Group (NRG) is responsible for the conservation, protection, and restoration of natural park lands. NRG's staff of ecologists, foresters, and environmental professionals design and implement plans to manage the City's forest, grassland and wetland habitats, and to conserve its flora and fauna.

Under general supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, conduct environmental assessments and monitoring for ongoing natural resource projects. Provide coordination for volunteers, interns and other project partners. Under general supervision, make observations and carry out various tasks in the field that may include, water and water body measurements, riverine monitoring and assessment. Assist with the development of sampling protocols, data collection, documentation and report production.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in hydrology, ecology, or another environmental or natural science.
  • Previous experience in scientific research and/or fieldwork relating to urban ecology or any of the fields listed in "1" above.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with GPS and GIS technology.
  • Valid New York State driver license.

Note: New York City residency is required within 90 days of hire.
