Research Scientist in Plant Metabolomics

Applications are invited from experienced graduates to join the metabolomics team at Rothamsted Research. The post holder will work in our metabolomics unit and be responsible for delivery of plant metabolomics to the new Cropping Carbon Institute Strategic Program.
Duties will involve organising and assisting with plant growth and harvesting, tissue preparation and development of new protocols for metabolite extraction from willow and other bioenergy crops. The post holder will be involved in the processing of large sample numbers, and, following detailed SOPs, for the preparation of these samples for NMR and Mass Spectrometry analysis.
Additional duties will involve the maintenance of the group's seed and plant tissue archive and the associated databases for processed analytical samples. Operation of bespoke laboratory robotics will also be carried out where necessary.
The post holder will work alongside colleagues in the metabolomics unit and Cropping Carbon projects, especially in the organisation of plant growth experiments, harvesting and tissue preparation. Liaison with analytical spectroscopists will also be essential.
The successful candidate will have a degree in a biologically relevant scientific discipline, ideally with a post graduate qualification and preferentially with experience of working in a plant science environment with exposure to plant growth, tissue handling and metabolite analysis. Ability to work with large sample numbers is essential.
The post is funded for three years at Band D with the option for renewal. The appointment is full-time with a starting salary normally in the region of £26,610 to £29,566 per annum.
