Nature Reserve ManagerA newly established nature reserve trust in northern Botswana is looking for a reserve/park Manager to lead its development and assume the daily management role of its operations. The successful candidate will be chosen not only on consideration of their qualifications and experience, but also on their willingness and desire to see the project grow from its initial development phase to full operations. Covering some 8200 hectares of well-preserved natural habitat, Tachila Nature Reserve will conserve an important part of the natural, archaeological and historical heritage of northern Botswana. With the development of a game fence, the reintroduction of large game, and the building of education and recreation infrastructure, Tachila Nature Reserve will provide wildlife conservation, environmental education, and promote eco-tourism and local employment potential in northern Botswana. Qualifications & experience: To be considered, the candidate needs to have at least a degree qualification in an environmental and/or wildlife management related subject, with at least 5 years working experience in some, or all the following fields; project management, wildlife management and conservation, mechanics and engineering, building and general infrastructure maintenance, environmental education and tourism. Working experience in an African country would be an advantage. The manager will report to the Tachila Nature Reserve Board of Trustees on a regular basis and needs to be able to effectively interface between the board and the reserves' staff in order to ensure smooth operations and decision making as well as effective project implementation. Responsibilities: The manager's responsibilities will include and are not restricted to staff recruitment and training, project policy (e.g. staff, wages), schedules and timetabling, developments co-ordination, contracting, reports and communications, vehicle control and maintenance, administration, marketing and fundraising. In addition to the above, the manager should always express a professional public relations attitude and be willing to interact with, and accommodate visitors and the general public. Salary: comprises a negotiable monthly cash portion, plus accommodation and use of a vehicle. The candidate is required to take up the position in mid June.
