The School of Environmental Sciences is seeking a Senior Research Associate to contribute to the NERC funded multidisciplinary international research project Remineralisation of organic carbon by marine bacterioplankton (REMAIN) - reducing the known unknown to determine respiration rates of laboratory cultures of phytoplankton, bacterioplankton and zooplankton and natural plankton communities in the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
You will compare estimates of respiration derived from plankton consumption of dissolved oxygen and the activity of the cellular electron transport system under a range of organic and inorganic nutrient conditions. The project involves substantial collaboration with national and international partners, including research visits to laboratories in Germany and Spain and a 6 week open ocean field campaign.
You must have a PhD in Marine Biogeochemistry or equivalent and be able to fulfil all essential elements of the person specification.
The post is available from 1 January 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter on a full-time basis for a fixed term period of 32 months.
