Impacts of climate change on Amboseli and cross border National Park ecosystems of Kenya and Tanzania


The York Institute for Tropical Ecosystem Dynamics (KITE) is seeking to appoint a Senior Research fellow to model relationships between ecosystem dynamics, climate change, and human impacts along the Amboseli and Cross boarder National Park area of Kenya and Tanzania. Funded by the Liz Claiborne Art Ortenberg Foundation, the Senior Research fellow will be responsible for mapping the distribution of plants in the borderlands - and to model their vulnerability to climate change. It is anticipated that you will take an active lead in developing the research project, publish results and liaise with other project partners at the Missouri Botanic Garden, The African Conservation Centre and the University of San Diego.

You should hold a PhD Environmental Science and have excellent skills in quantitative ecology. Research skills in botany, GIS, environmental modelling, computer programming, tropical ecology and/or Quaternary science would be an advantage, as would a working knowledge of East African ecosystems and impacts of climate change on Ecosystem functioning.

The post is part time (18.5 hours per week) and is available immediately for a period of 6 months. Starting salary will be in the range of £27,466 - £33,780 per annum, reduced pro rata.
