Master of Research in Ecology and Environmental ManagementDepartment of Biology and Environment DepartmentApplications for october 2009 open until AugustThis 51-week course prepares students for careers in ecology and biodiversity research, conservation, and the management of natural resources. It is aimed at students who seek an advanced, research orientated qualification at the interface of the natural and decision making sciences. It provides a thorough grounding in skills, knowledge and research experience, and is taught jointly by the Environment Department and the Department of Biology, two of the UK's leading departments for ecological research and teaching. Graduates either go onto PhDs (about 40%), or are employed within consultancies, NGOs, research or government institutes and other organizations concerned with conservation or the management of natural resources (about 50%). The Biology Department at York was ranked second best in the UK to study biosciences by the Guardian, and is equal first in the recent Research Assessment Exercise for top quality research amongst broad-spectrum bioscience departments.
