Environment, Consents and Stakeholder Manager



Are your strengths organisation, negotiation and interactions between people?

Join us and become our new Environment, Consents and Stakeholder Manager in the department Environment & Licensing - Renewables (ELR). You will be based in Belgravia, London and work with colleagues in the UK as well as Denmark, Germany and Poland. It is likely you will be expected to travel across the UK and northwest Europe, particularly Denmark.

The ELR team is responsible for solving tasks relating to environmental, consenting and stakeholder issues throughout the project life of our offshore wind farms. Together with your colleagues you will develop and implement the way ELR deals with stakeholder consultation, discussions with authorities, preparation of applications, achievement of consents, achievement of site and land rights, and compliance with preconditions of consents.

Areas of responsibility

You will manage specific projects and work in close cooperation with the project development manager or construction project manger being part of the project management team. Here you will be managing the varying team of environmental and stakeholder managers of the project and be responsible for the issues below and in most cases have to manage external or internal consultants. You will clearly define the scope of work and deliverables to the team. You will manage, coordinate and execute the planning and environments tasks on offshore wind projects throughout the whole life cycle of a project.

Furthermore, your key duties will include:

  • initiate consultation of relevant authorities and stakeholders in relation to applications; Manage stakeholder engagement and liaison with regulators and statutory/non-statutory consultees
  • provide the budget for investment decisions for the scope of the consents team and lead, decide and prepare consent strategy. You will devise the project's consents objectives, coordinate resources in the Consents Team and clearly define the scope of work and deliverables to the team, supervise that the project processes are being followed, and secure that all consents, authorisations and approvals are obtained in line with the programme.
  • coordinate with project management and manage and disseminate consent conditions to leading project participant and obtain consent conditions for projects that are workable and acceptable to the projects, including ensuring compliance with conditions of relevant consents in the pre-construction, construction and operational phases
  • manage preparation of applications and necessary supporting documents, such as scoping reports, environmental impact assessments and environmental statements and secure and follow up that all applications are prepared and negotiated with the authorities
  • manage the securing of site and land rights for the development and ensure that these are in place, for example onshore and offshore cable routing, on shore substation footprint and natural habitat compensation areas

Your profile

It is expected that you will have a university level education and gained a relevant qualification (e.g. environmental, technical, political science or legal) or equivalent or be qualified by experience. You will have considerable professional experience working in the wind industry or similar where you have acquired business understanding, negotiating skills and ideally you will have an existing network among authorities, stakeholders and consultants. Ideally, you will have considerable project management experience.

It will be an advantage if you have experience within the area from previous employment, from the wind industry or similar. You should also have experience of consenting processes, Environmental Impact Assessments and planning license applications.

One of the open positions has specific knowledge requirements relating to our environmental impact assessments, stakeholder liaison and license conditions in at least one of the following areas; offshore human environment - Navigation impacts & Navigational risk assessments, Oil & gas impacts & Helicopter exclusion zones, Radar and Telecommunications impacts and offshore cable crossing agreements. This would likely include experience of working for or with one of; Oil & Gas stakeholders, the shipping industry, Maritime & Coast Guard Agency, Civil Aviation Authority, NATS, and Ministry of Defence.

Knowledge of the other areas relevant to our environmental impact assessment work, stakeholder liaison and license conditions would be an advantage (e.g. Offshore Biological & Physical Environment - Marine ecology, Ornithology, coastal processes; The Offshore Human Environment - Impacts to commercial fisheries, socio-economics, seascape; The Onshore Biological Environment ; The Onshore Human Environment - visual impact, socio-economic impacts).

It is essential that you have a strong personal drive; are able to create consensus and are able to create results through teamwork and develop good relationships to your colleagues and external business partners. Additionally, you can handle numerous tasks simultaneously without losing perspective.
