Hydrologist

Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire
£20,700 - £26,500 + benefits

At the Environment Agency our mission is simple: protect the environment to ensure tomorrow's generations inherit a cleaner, healthier world. Right now, climate change is presenting us with many unique challenges, which is why hydrology is at the centre of our vision as well as many of our regulatory activities. But you'll not only enjoy the positive impact you'll make on the world around you. Situated in beautiful West Wales, you'll benefit from one of the most picturesque workspaces around.

Working within our Flood & Coastal Risk Management department, you'll provide hydrological services to our frontline teams. You'll be influential in everything from understanding the size of potential floods to drought management. In fact, you can expect to audit the hydrology for flood consequence assessments and flood defence consents, provide flows for flood modelling and mapping, develop and implement hydrological and hydraulics projects and much much more. Your responsibilities will be demanding and vital, and because they're split between internal hydrological consultations and long-term strategic planning projects in both water resources and flood hydrology, your days will never be routine.

Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, you'll understand field hydrometry and be able to analyse hydrometric data. You'll be competent in hydrological science and have the ability to apply it practically and innovatively at an operational level. An understanding of open channel hydraulics and the principles of hydraulic modelling, as well as the ability to use river modelling software, would be advantageous. Experience in topographic surveying and use of GIS would also be beneficial.

We are committed to making our organisation as diverse as the environment
