Senior Attorney Environment, Health & Safety - EMEA
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing counsel on various environmental, health and safety (EHS) regulatory matters
(both facility-based and product compliance-based) and overall mitigating corporate exposure. S/he will be responsible for identifying
areas of legal risk and taking steps to ensure processes are in place to mitigate that risk, counselling facility managers and
senior management and support functions in EHS legal matters, providing legal training to EHS personnel, supporting acquisitions
and divestitures, assisting in litigation matters, representing Eaton's business in enforcement or regulatory matters before governmental
agencies and exercising professional judgment to protect the interests of the business both internally and externally, as
well as to further the EHS strategic initiatives of the Company.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide legal and strategic counsel to Eaton's EHS personnel (at the plant, group, EMEA regional and corporate levels), and the business in order to ensure compliance with applicable law and regulation, maximize benefits and reduce risk.
- Lead EMEA related projects that involve compliance with EU directives, including counsel to facilities on EHS operational compliance and counsel to businesses on product compliance with applicable regulation such as several EU based initiatives including REACH, WEEE, RoHS, CE marking, etc.
- Ensure the practices, policies and activities of Eaton's businesses meet EHS legal and management requirements.
- Provide legal advice on EHS matters in the context of acquisitions and divestitures, including due diligence, contract negotiation and related post-closing EHS integration activities.
- Participate in and manage negotiations with government agencies and others on EHS matters (including enforcement) in order to properly communicate Eaton's position, maximize benefits and reduce risk.
- Engage, manage and supervise outside counsel when appropriate and necessary, to provide the necessary level of legal services required for specific EHS matters or transactions.
- Be involved in expanding EHS customer base, including corporate, group, EMEA regional and facility-level EHS teams.
- Actively contribute to and participate in worldwide EHS strategic initiatives, along with EHS technical functions.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:
Incumbent must have JD degree from an accredited law school and be a licensed attorney in an EMEA country. The incumbent must
have at least 5 years experience at a major law firm or in public/private company. Incumbent should have a "broad based" EHS legal
background. Experience in engineering is a plus. Language proficiency in English is mandatory; proficiency in German is desirable.
