To support our work we are recruiting to the following role:

Research Theme Leader: Environment, Economy and Society


Duration: For an initial period of three years, with potential to extend
Working hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week
Location: Thurso

Salary: £38,794 - £44,785 per annum

This post is based within the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) which is a distinctive research centre located in the town of Thurso and part of North Highland College.

The ERI has a rapidly evolving research profile and provides a high quality, vibrant academic environment, and unrivalled access to some outstanding natural environments. Current activity is focused around the priority themes of ‘Environmental Contamination and Ecological Health'; 'Carbon, Water and Climate' and 'Renewable Energy and the Environment'. As part of our commitment to developing our international research profile, we are seeking to establish a fourth, cross- cutting research theme on 'Environment, Economy and Society' and have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and established researcher to lead this activity.

Applications are sought from highly motivated candidates with demonstrable expertise and a track record of research in areas relevant to ‘Environment, Economy and Society', for example:

  • Sustainable development (rural)
  • Environmental economics
  • Environmental management (including water resources)
  • Sustainable technologies
  • 'One Health' approaches
  • 'Low Carbon' and/or 'Circular Economies’

Candidates with experience and a track record in adjacent relevant areas may also be considered
