Helix International Group is a leading solution provider delivering a comprehensive range of Sustainability, Risk and Wellbeing Management services and software to major corporations and the property sector. We are looking for an energetic, versatile, experienced and highly qualified individual to become our Principal for Sustainability (Energy & Climate Change) and play a key role in taking to the next level our premier and proactive consultancy & training services to major and global organisations. In addition, we are rapidly expanding our consulting to cover many new industries and sectors; as well as new services. As such, candidates applying must have experience working within a large number of industries. The successful candidate will be an MBA calibre in a Sustainability or Carbon specific related area and be highly regarded by other Energy & Climate Change professionals. He or she will have made significant achievements in developing, managing, and implementing Sustainability management across large multi-site organisations from the ground upwards to board level, and proven mentoring skills.
The Role
- Heavy involvement in establishing and producing the business requirements and technical specifications for our Carbon Management software which will include:
- Emission Sources
- Emission Standards
- Data Analysis
- Financial Analysis
- Benchmarking
- Scenario Planning
- Standard Reports
- Bespoke Reports
- Strategy
- To become the Principal for Sustainability Consulting for a team of consultants who provide a wide range of services to clients from a variety of industries and business sectors.
- To supervise and lead major projects and liaise with key clients.
- To develop new products and services in support of Marketing objectives and plans
- To assist sales and marketing colleagues with proposals, tenders and client presentations to win business through professional and technical advice and support.
- Lead and develop at a strategic technical level our Sustainability disciplines and resources related to delivering sustainability consultancy throughout the client lifecycle; pre sales (i.e. bid for business), during business and post business in pursuit of leveraging reputation and opportunities.
- To interpret and advise on new legislation and requirements.
- Develop a research capability within this area of the business.
- To assess and report on consultants' knowledge, skills and behaviour.
- To deal with any contentious, complex or critical technical or delivery issues relating to Energy & Sustainability advice, reports, services etc.
- Carbon management and associated streams for the Group and Group companies.
- To advise and assist the Board of Directors to develop and maintain our Carbon Management competence.
Qualifications/Knowledge
- Post Graduate in a Sustainability field
- A qualified and experienced professional in Sustainability and/or related specialism
- In addition to academic experience and knowledge, the successful candidate will have commercial acumen
- Track record of strategic management of Sustainability
- Sound knowledge of Kyoto protocol, Carbon Emission Trading, Renewable Obligation (RO), Climate Change Levy (CCL) and Alternative Energy technologies.
- Demonstrated understanding of RoHS, REACH, EUP, ELV and other Environmental Regulatory Compliance Services.
- Broad experience in Strategic Carbon Management and knowledge of measuring and reducing carbon emissions within workplace organisations.
- Experience and clear understanding of the emerging Carbon markets like Carbon Accounting, Carbon Auditing and GHG Reduction.
- Experience in Carbon Disclosure programme, GRI G3 Reporting Requirements & reporting implementation.
- Understanding of the Stern Report content, recommendations and impact
- Understanding of working knowledge of DECC and defra requirements
- Experience in preparing an organisation for CRC, and considerable success in improving a client's position in this scheme.
- Understanding of how CRC affects the UK property market, landlord and tenant.
- Understanding and familiarisation with the following:
- Carbon Audit Service
- Carbon Accounting Service
- Reduction Advice
- Climate Change Adaptation Strategies
- Climate Change & Impact Assessments on supply chain management
- Sustainability and Communication Strategy
- Offset Strategies & Campaigns
- CDM
- Experience in setting targets with Senior Board Members
- Experience of programmes to control energy usage in buildings
- Experience in reducing emissions in road and air traffic
- Experience of using Carbon Scorecards
- Understands how to create and execute Low Carbon Business Models
- Proven project & contract management experience at a senior level
- Evidence of strong commercial acumen and experience of working with financial KPIs

- Excellent communication, presentation and written skills and an ability to converse technically and confidently at all levels.

- Disciplined at writing detailed and structured reports quickly and identifying project opportunities.
- Able to research and develop product solutions.
- Able to undertake client needs assessment and translate into a working brief and proposed contract.
- Able to prepare tenders and calculate project timings.
- Highly influential and persuasive.
- Able to make compelling business cases to win new clients.
