Postdoc in Physical Limnology
Berlin, Germany
A postdoctoral position is available immediately as part of a collaborative German-Finnish-Russian project "Heat and mass transport in lakes under seasonal ice cover". The initial appointment is for one and half years and can be extended up to three years depending on funding and performance. The position will be based at the Department of Ecohydrology, Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries in Berlin, Germany, but the postdoc will also work closely with the Department of Physics, University of Helsinki and will participate in field experiments at ice-covered lakes in southern Finland. The successful applicant will utilize modern measurement techniques, such as acoustic velocimetry, microstructure profiling, oxygen and temperature monitoring aimed at establishing the link between mixing intensity under ice and the heat/oxygen transport.
Qualifications: A PhD in physical limnology, physical oceanography, or related field. Research experience in lake/coastal hydrodynamics and/or turbulence and convection studies supported by a publications record. Knowledge of modern field techniques and data analysis methods together with relevant programming skills (Matlab, Fortran) is desirable.
